Small businesses are at the heart of our Atlantic Canadian communities. When they thrive, we thrive too. Not surprisingly, there’s a lot of hard work that goes on behind the scenes before a business opens in your neighbourhood—and it’s not all glitz and glamour.

If you’ve ever thought about starting your own business or want to get a sneak peek at the action before a business launches, we’ve got you. In this three-part series, we’re diving into the nitty, the gritty, and the exciting aspects of how two entrepreneurs saw an opportunity and rose to the occasion—all with a bit of help from their local credit union.

Thanh and Priya launched blushco. into open arms across the region. Although they are a dynamic team of two, they credit reaching this milestone to the help of their financial expert (and dare we say friend?!) ,Dan.

“We are overwhelmed with the positive reactions we’ve received during our launch,” Priya says. “And getting to this point wouldn’t have been possible without the help of Dan—working with a financial expert has been a huge help.”

Dan has a “hands on” approach with his members. “I support their business by showing I am part of their team—no different than an employee of the business,” he says.

Financial experts, like Dan, are at the ready if you’re thinking about starting your own business. It’s important to connect with an expert in the early process because they can answer important questions, set the right expectations of what’s needed to get your business off the ground, and to help you succeed from a financial standpoint.

“Dan immediately made us feel welcome—working with him was a true alignment. He was accessible, dedicated, and gave us sound advice and feedback on ideas, which was invaluable as a new business,” Thanh says.
