Member Story: Win and give back

The beginning of the New Year marks the beginning of the RRSP contribution season. A lot of people know it’s a good idea to contribute, but how do you encourage them to make a contribution? A contest with a twist! Credit unions across the Atlantic Provinces participated in the MoneyMatch Contest. Anyone that made a minimum contribution of $500 to their RRSP or TFSA at their participating local credit union was entered to win a $1,000 cash prize. To sweeten the deal, winners could also select a local charity and we’d match their prize with a $1,000 donation.

The results are in and we’re excited to announce our two MoneyMatch winners!

Jackie Lavallee from L'Anse-au-Loup in Newfoundland and Labrador selected Daffodil Place in St. John’s. Operated by the Canadian Cancer Society, Daffodil Place offers accommodations for people with cancer and their families who need to travel to St. John’s to receive care.

“Coming from a small and isolated community, I can appreciate the stress that illness can place on a family,” said Lavallee. “I picked Daffodil Place because they provide a safe haven for families that need to travel during a difficult time.”

Our second winner, Sandra Caseley from Kensington, Prince Edward Island, selected the Prince County Hospital for her donation. “It’s very near and dear to my heart because I worked there as a nurse for 40 years,” she explained. “The Prince County Hospital helps everyone in my community, so it was an easy choice!”

We are committed to where we live and we want to help Atlantic Canadians save for the future while giving back to the community! It’s a win-win in the best way possible!
