For Madison MacInnis, tackling her dream of playing rugby at a highly competitive level is being made possible by her local credit union.
The 15 year old fly-half from Sydney, Nova Scotia has just returned from a trip to Ireland where she had the chance to put her skills to the test on an international stage.
"I am happy that I was able to attend a women's Six Nations rugby match in Ireland. It allowed me to see what professional rugby looks like and it showed me where I want to be compared to where I am now. We won both of our matches against the teams in our age categories. I learned a lot from my coaches and I made a lot of new friends. We had lots of fun touring Ireland together."
Even though she has only been playing rugby for about a year, the busy tenth grader has made waves in the sport locally. She has played with the CBU women’s team, her high school team, the Caledonia 7’s team and travelled to Ireland with the Nova Scotia Keltics U18 women’s team.
And Sydney Credit Union has been there every step of the way. Madison was part of the FAT CAT® savings program from a young age—a special savings account designed to teach kids about the concept of money management. Sydney Credit Union is also a proud community sponsor, so when the opportunity to go to Ireland came up, it was a natural fit for Madison and her family to meet with them to discuss sponsorship opportunities.
“It feels pretty awesome that everyone in the community supports me, including the credit union,” says Madison.
The support extends beyond just the local level, too. Atlantic Credit Unions—the regional body of credit unions—matched the sponsorship provided by Sydney Credit Union ensuring Madison would have everything she needed to represent her hometown with pride on the Emerald Isle.
Well done, Madison! We can’t want to see what’s next!
