Maggie’s Place: Born out of profound grief and a powerful vision.
Cindie Smith founded this resource center in memory of Cindie’s young daughter, Maggie, who had passed away at just four years old. The loss was a deep and personal sorrow, but it sparked a desire to create something meaningful in Maggie’s name.
During Maggie’s funeral, Cindie’s older daughter, Emily, struggled with her grief. In a moment of unexpected comfort, a ladybug appeared on Emily’s funeral bulletin, then again on Maggie’s grave. To Emily, the ladybug was a symbol of Maggie’s presence. This experience deeply moved Cindie and became the inspiration behind Maggie’s Place, which aims to offer support and resources to families in need, free of charge.
Despite its success, Maggie’s Place has faced challenges. In its day-to-day operations, Maggie’s Place is dedicated to supporting local economies. And in return, the support from local businesses has been crucial to Maggie’s Place. Their local credit union has been a steadfast ally, contributing food to the center’s pantry, participating in its annual general meetings, and collaborating on community initiatives. This partnership highlights the importance of local support in sustaining the center’s mission.
For 30 years, Maggie’s Place has been dedicated to enhancing the health and social development of children and families in their community. The core values of Maggie’s Place reflect its commitment to recognizing the strengths in all families and supporting a variety of family forms to promote healthy development.
Maggie’s Place symbolizes how profound loss can give rise to a source of strength and support for others, embodying the hope and resilience that Maggie’s memory inspires.
