Friends of Jane's

In the heart of Nova Scotia, a small but vibrant shop called Friends of Jane’s opened its doors with a mission beyond just retail.

Founded as a budget boutique and consignment store, the store’s unique model fosters a culture of cooperation and giving back. The idea for Friends of Jane’s was inspired by a similar shop in Wolfville, Nova Scotia, called Jane’s Again. The bond between the owners of both stores, rooted in a 40-year friendship, laid the foundation for a business that reflects a shared commitment to community empowerment.

Just nine months after opening, the COVID-19 pandemic hit, leading to the closure of many small businesses. Despite these setbacks, Friends of Jane’s persisted, adapting to the new normal and continuing to support local women and charities. During the pandemic, the store managed to raise over $25,000 for local charities.

The store’s commitment to its values is evident in its operations. The shop provides crucial support to women in need, offering clothing for job seekers, immigrant families, and those affected by disasters like the recent wildfires.

Friends of Jane’s embodies the spirit of women supporting women. Its core principles of empowerment and community support are reflected in every aspect of the business. Their local credit union has played a vital role in this journey, providing financial support for purchasing the storefront and navigating the challenges of the pandemic. Their leadership and community involvement have been a source of inspiration.

Friends of Jane’s is more than just a store; it exemplifies how local businesses can unite to strengthen and elevate their neighbourhoods, showing that collaborative efforts can lead to mutual growth and support.
